- Diversity and inclusion statement | Nirvanas Arts Collec
Diversity and inclusivity is at the heart of nirvanas arts collective. Find out more about what we stand for. Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Statement Nirvanas Arts Collective has been built on the foundational belief that every person deserves equitable access to support, community services and the arts industry. We understand that the arts are a powerful tool for social and political change by uplifting the voices of marginalised individuals to be heard, challenging stereotypes and fostering understanding amongst communities. Nirvanas Arts Collective is but a small part in a wider socio-political movement to improve access to many spaces that non-disabled individuals often have the unknown privilege of accessing. We strive to support disabled artists in any way we can, and we will not ignore the importance of intersectional identities and experiences, and how this contributes to creative expression. We acknowledge the ways these identities can come up against social barriers within creative spaces that can create further marginalisation. We strive to be an anti-oppressive organisation who holds ourselves accountable to maintain the integrity of the organisation's morals and beliefs, and show this through all aspects of our mission; we do not tolerate discrimination or hate within our organisation. Throughout our work, we promote the understanding and respect of everyone regardless of their gender, religion, disability or culture, and we actively celebrate our multi-cultural society. We want to break social barriers for all minorities to ensure everyone has equal access to arts opportunities and community services. We feel that everyone's fullest potential is only reached when they live as their most authentic self and we are committed to co-create a space with our members where all identities are accepted and celebrated.

- Mission and values | Nirvanas Arts Collec
Nirvanas Arts Collective believes in the transformative power of the arts; we believe that disabled and neurodivergent artists should have the chance to expand their occupational and financial opportunity whilst nurturing their overall wellbeing. We want to empower our artists to raise and achieve their aspirations and goals; our mission is to dismantle barriers that hinder access to artistic spaces and creative opportunity to ensure our artists reach their fullest potential. Our mission Nirvanas Arts Collective believes in the transformative power of the arts, our focus spans various domains of wellbeing including the social, emotional, occupational, and financial. We believe that disabled and neurodivergent artists should have the chance to expand their occupational and financial opportunity whilst nurturing their overall wellbeing. We want to empower our artists to raise and achieve their personal and professional aspirations and goals; our mission is to dismantle barriers that hinder access to artistic spaces and creative opportunity to ensure our artists reach their fullest potential. As a disability-led organisation we have a deep understanding of the role of the social and medical model of disability. We aim to ensure all access needs are considered by creating support that acknowledges the interconnected role of social inaccessibility and the impact of disability on individual health and daily living. We want disabled and neurodivergent artists to be able pursue their passions and make their voices heard in creative landscapes; we hope our commitment to providing considered support helps brings ‘hidden’ artists to the forefront of the conversation in the arts sector and creative spaces. Our wider mission is to bring therapeutic services through creative practices to the community to close the gap in wellbeing equality, and create sustainability through the development of a social economy. We believe that social missions are a means to generate profit that is reinvested into the community, creating a vital support system for marginalised, disadvantaged and disabled communities. Our commitment to our social mission not only enhances the quality of life for the people we serve but also contributes to a more equitable society. Our values Equity We believe equality can only be achieved through equitable interventions and projects. Diversity We aim to represent the many communities and voices within the services we provide. Inclusion Inclusion should go beyond just eradicating the physical barriers that impact inclusion, but make individuals and communities feel fully included through considerations of all individual needs, the language used, and acceptance of identities and differing life experiences. Resistance In the face of exclusive and oppressive structures, NAC strives to resist social and political change that negatively impacts the health, wellbeing and identities of disabled individuals and marginalised cultures and identities. NAC believes positive, beneficial change will only come about if communities resist and object to negative change. Accountability NAC strives to continually reflect on the actions and behaviours of those that operation within NAC that may harm or have a negative impact on individuals, communities and the environment. Through this we show that we value marginalised voices within oppressive structures. Social Economy We believe in creating a social economy that uplifts marginalised groups and supports sustainable economic development which creates real world positive impact to disadvantaged groups. Individualism NAC aims to see staff, directors, volunteers and individuals that use NAC services as individuals with their own perspectives, experiences, identities, cultures and communities. Co-production Those with lived experience are experts in their own experience. Those with lived experience should be centered in the decisions NAC make as they bring invaluable ideas and contributions to the direction of services.
- Founder's Statement | Nirvanas Arts Collec
A statement from our founder and managing director Elysian Fyre. Founder's Statement Video audio Hi! I'm Elle and I am the founder and managing director of Nirvanas Arts Collective CIC. My passion is to support people and I also have a passion in the creative arts as well, so I endeavoured to find a way I could merge my passions together, thus Nirvanas Arts Collective was born. Throughout the last year I have continued to develop and refine the direction I want the organisation to take, it has been a journey of trial and error, listening to what the disabled community needs and developing my own business skills. I often say NAC's journey started on the 8th of October 2024, when the company was officially incorporated, however my own story, which started in 2015, was really the beginning as without my story NAC would not exist. I rapidly became unwell in 2015, being diagnosed with multiple long-term conditions as a teenager. I turned to creativity to navigate a new world that, at the time, was quite small. Any energy I had was spent on creating, but it was my dream to create a business from my art. As my health improved, I did have the ability to achieve this. I exhibited at my first exhibition in 2018, I left education after my GCSEs to pursue my creative passions, I sold artwork and kits through Etsy, took many commissions and sold originals. My health improved to allow me to reach my goals however, it is my belief that health should not limit the ability to achieve these goals. With beneficial, person-centred support in place creative disabled and neurodivergent individuals should be given the opportunity to achieve their own creative goals, even if it takes a little longer for them to get there. NAC has been founded on the principle of equity and accessibility. Initial ideas of the services have been drawn from my own lived experience but they have been refined to best support the wider neurodivergent and disabled community. With my improved health I have studied at Derby university, moved cities, I can work part-time and created a non-profit. I grew-up in the Northeast of England, and now live in Sheffield, which is such a vibrant place full of creativity and social change; it is the perfect place to set-up a non-profit. Being back in the North has connected me back to my community and it is where I feel most at home, although it has taken some time to get used to the northern winters again! My illnesses do not define me but has defined the ways I navigate life and the direction my personal and professional life has taken. I am proudly disabled and autistic, finding empowerment in my lived experience which I feel supports my ability to be compassionate and supportive of those I work with. I am also loudly disabled, autistic and queer which I hope supports the radical change that is needed to better support those who are marginalised and most vulnerable within society. I am extremely excited that NAC is now the next stage in my life, I look forward to what comes next and the amazing people I will meet along the journey, and I hope that you are one of them...
